Product Eval. - Gates Barricade 5/16” Fuel Hose

For those who want the bottom line first - Gates Barricade Fuel Hose is CRAP!

Now for the details –
I installed Gates Barricade 5/16” Fuel Hose on my bike the end of June when I installed a really nice fuel filter. All the fittings on my tank, carbs, and filter are normal 5/16” barb fittings. When installing the hose I noticed it did not slip onto the fittings very well, but considering that in the past I had used 1/4 “ fuel hose I was used to hoses being tight when installing.

I recently removed my fuel tank to do a little maintenance, and I noticed the inside of the nice new expensive Gates Barricade had a problem. The Gates hose has a sort of membrane that lines the inside of the hose. Apparently, this membrane is not bonded to the hose. When you push the barb fitting into the hose, the membrane rolls up in front of it like an old sock sliding down your ankle and actually reduces the inner diameter of the hose! This happened at every barb fitting. (see picture below)

In summary – the Gates Barricade Fuel Hose is CRAP! It should be names Gates Blockade!

I replaced the Gates trash with Goodyear 5/16” Fuel Line Hose and it worked great! (see pictures below) The Goodyear part number for a 2 foot length is 65123. I bought the Goodyear fuel hose at Applied Industrial Technologies; they have offices nationwide.
