Petcock question was created by pjed
I thoroughly cleaned the petcock on my 76 KZ400 and replaced the screen, bowl gasket and the gasket that goes between it the gas tank. I tried to get the bike started and had some issues so I took things apart again. I noticed that the petcock still dripped a bit of gas out while in the off position. Seemed like when I tipped it, the sediment bowl may have filled and flowed a bit more. The only gasket I didn't replace was that circular one with the four holes in it which didn't seem too bad. Could that be the culprit? Is it possible to make one of these gasket as I'm having trouble finding a replacement.

If that gasket with 4 holes is damaged fuel can leak through the petcock when turned off. Ed

The four-hole gasket for the KZ400 D3 is obsolete. You can use a four hole gasket from an early CB750. They are not an exact fit but they will do the job. Mine has been working well for quite a while.

another trick is to polish the face of the lever (the surface that goes up against the 4hole)on a flat surface like a piece of glass. Supposed to make the gaskets last longer. You can also use some grease that does not dissolve in gas. It might be dielectic grease but I am not sure
Good luck, the KZ400 is a great bike you don't see very often.
