I have 78 kz650, and I got it with only one throttle cable. The one closes to you when your sitting on it is missing. What cable do I have to order? Or do they sell sets with both.

Many only run the one cable. But you can order a replacement for the missing or both, plus lots more at z1enterprises.com They will have lots for your bike. Also there are many other places as well to get one from.

PLEASE specify your bike's model. The 1978 KZ650 B2 & C2 take a different cable than the 1978 KZ650-D1. It really helps if you add your bike's year & model to your signature line. Ed

Try checking the engine & frame number info at the jarlef z650 site.

The B model has spoked wheels & a Rr drum brake. The C has cast alloy wheels & triple disks.

Check the info at the site I linked. The SR had triple disks as well.

The bike dying is a separate issue from the throttle cables. The VM24 carburetors have an open cable & a close cable, -- each one moves when you twist the throttle. The closing cable is a safety feature to make sure the throttle slides close when you decelerate. The extra cable also serves as a spare in case the open cable breaks for whatever reason - just switch the cables.

You should lubricate the cables, particularly the ends where they usually break. The throttle grip end can get dry & gritty, causing binding, so the cable frays - kinda like bending a paper clip back n forth.

Be sure to lubricate the clutch cable as well, especially the lever end.

Just look at the VIN stamped in the steering neck. If the VIN starts with "KZ650C" it's a C. If it starts with "KZ650D" it's a D. Ed
