Yea it's stamped 652CC. turboking, I think you're right. I didn't realize they were ever that cheap. That sounds like the most plausible. I don't know if any of the internals are different. I haven't cracked that egg yet.

Thanks for the info.

I would measure the intake port of the KZ650 head.
If it measures 1.140 or bigger then I would use the 29 carbs.
Secondly I would measure the rubber carb mounts and make them 1.140 or more.
Let the motor run 3000 rpms or less pull the plugs check color to see if its tan color if not
rejet with new pilot jets. Run bike down Interstate 5 or 6000 rpms.
Plug chop and check plugs. change needles but u need to main jet first and run WOT before needle change sorry about got ahead of myself.

The easiest way to tell the 29's from the other carbs is on the bowls they have a big nut in the center that was used for dropping the jets while still on bike I think. But at any rate none of the other kz carbs I have seen have this feature, not the 26's nor the 28's.

Early 28's have the bottom hex. Not exactly the same size but large.

The carbs pictured don't look like smoothbores to me with that large square flat area on the boles. I ran smoothbores on my 650 with nothing more than a Yosh header and they worked great. Now with a big bore, cams and head work they work even better.

They definitely don't look anything like those in the pic though.

After looking at a bunch of VM29's, the bowls have at least 2 different styles. With the A7 stamp on the carb I'm pretty sure these are VM29s.

Mark, what was your jetting like before the big bore, cams and heads? When I bought the bike the needle clip was set to the 4th groove from the top, 112.5 mains and a 17.5 pilot jet. I'm thinking these carbs are to big for this bike. I've leaned the needle out to the 2nd groove and I'm still seeing gas on the plugs, and she is dieing when I blip the throttle. Could be something else but the plugs are still telling me rich.

Rhone, I'm not crazy running the bike down the highway when I have bad throttle response ... and I need to get the bike legal. Still tinkering with a blinker issue. But the current plan is to dial in the carbs with road tests soon.

single fuel inlet, silver slides, access plugs on the float bowls....they sure look like Vm29's. The best way to tell is to check the rh side of the carb bodies for a square casting...as was pictured in an earlier post. 100% sure way to check.

Oh, and if you decide to sell those old beat up carbs, please let me know. ;)
