I would like to hear from people who put these carbs on the late 70's KZ's

dynoman.net/carb/keiCR.html#cr29s

The carbs on my KZ900 are pretty thrashed and instead of spending money fixing them up I'm considering buying the CR29's. I'm wondering if somebody here put these on their bike and had success dialing them in. My engine is currently stock except for a 4into1 exhaust.

I have some CR Specials on an '83 Suzuki 1100 and they work very well for what they are. Keep in mind they are a "racing" carburetor and work better at greater throttle openings than smaller ones. They aren't like using Lectrons on the street, but they struggle a little bit in the lower range. Good luck, Paul

They work well if you have a good free flowing 4 into 1 exhaust. I installed this carbs at first without a free flowing exhaust and i couldn´t jetting properly.
For me it was necessary to fit a remote idle adjuster for street use by small inconveniences. In my case on a Z650 with Cr´s the bike is perfectly streetable. Mikuni Vm24 (Kz650 oem carbs) works very well ... but Cr´s give you more. If you ride hard you will appreciate the extra high RPM power that the 29s will give you

The CR's are great carbs. Got my first set back in 1982 on my KZ1000S1. After that I put another set on my homebuilt KZ1000 superbike. Both bikes I ran 33mm CR's. But both motors were modified. The 29mm CR's are probably about the right size for a stock motor. Just make sure you have a healthy motor to start with. You will never get any carbs dialed in on a weak or a worn out motor.

I put a set of 33mm CR's on a boxstock '86 GSXR750 with a Yoshimura pipe. Those carbs pulled so hard on that bike that I kept hitting the stock rev limiter in every gear. The Yoshimura spark box with 12,500rpm limiter solved that problem. I NEVER had a stock bike pull so hard by just adding a set of carbs!!!

As long as you get the jetting real close, you will love the CR's!!! The air correction jet size makes a big difference from idle to mid range. I always synced my carbs with a wire gauge. I NEVER used carb sticks or gauges the whole time I worked with CR's. Never open the carbs, and let them snap back against the stop. Friends just love to open your throttle wide open, and let it snap close. It kills the sync on the slides.

The only thing I always had problem with all the CR's was the little O-Ring around the needle seat. About every 3 or 4 months of running, they would shrink and cause one cylinder to run rich or start leaking fuel from 1 or 2 carbs. I found a Suzuki O-Ring that was a a few thousands bigger in thickness. That seemed to fix the problem over the stock Keihin O-Ring. I never ran pump gas in my bikes. It was UniCal 105 leaded race gas, or VP something. That might have caused the stock Keihin O-Rings to shrink.
