exhaust for 77' kz1000 was created by drew51080
hoping someone can help me out. I have a 77' kz1000 with a very quiet stock exhaust. Considered cutting and removing baffles but not sure if that would sound good, or maybe someone knows of a good loud sounding aftermarket exhaust, maybe Vance & Hines or something. Just not too sure I want to chop up an original exhaust in good condition. Also, not real clear on jetting, if I could just change the main jets to a certain size or should get a 3 stage kit. I guess just looking for a good setup that will be loud but sound good. Please let me know what you think, anybody.

Welcome, Please don't chop up the stock exhaust....they are almost impossible to find in decent shape. V&H are relatively inexpensive but their fit and finish is not that great. Look up aftermarket exhausts in the search bar top right...there has been tons of discussion on this topic. Can you post some pics of your bike and exhaust?

As Bluezbike said, do not cut the stock exhaust! If you do you will ruin it. The stock exhaust is quite complicated inside and it does not have plain baffles that can be removed or installed. If your stock system is in pretty good shape you can buy an aftermarket exhaust, install it, and sell your stock exhaust. You may even come out ahead on the deal depending on the condition of your stock system and which after-market pipe you buy. Good stock exhaust systems are very hard to come by and bring good $$$$ on eBay or other venues. Ed

If yours is a KZ1000A1 bike and not an LTD, I will totally trade you my MAC 4-1 canister system for your stock exhaust. I'll even pay shipping both ways.
