kz 1100 carb problems (newb) was created by rampimpin
ok first off my name is joe and i just recently came across a 83 kz 1100 to me a beautiful bike. the owner of the bike told me he had the carbs cleaned and realized after the tank was full of rust and stopped playing with the bike and thats where i come in. i get this bike for a steal 100 bucks! now mt\y problem is this the bike has pod filters and i do not believe the carbs where jetted at all. and the only way to start the bike is to either spray carb or starting fluid in the carbs pops right off idles for a couple mins then dies, or holding my hand over the carb itself now im looking to build this bike back to its former gloary but the bike currently wont start period any help is greatly appreciated thanks in advanced

You're gonna have to clean out or replace the rusty tank. If the tank is dirty, it will keep clogging up the carbs. Then you'll need to do a full carb cleaning. It should at least start and run (perhaps poorly) with those jets if it did in the past. Get a factory service manual for your bike and start going through the list.

If your carbs are the stock Mikuni BS34, 122.5 main jets and a 1mm washer under the needle jets should get you there.

Would this be your jet-set suggestion for my setup as well? Stock 1100 engine, V&H header, stock air box w/K&N filter, Dyna 2000.
That is how I have the carbs now, with 37 pilots.

Yes, that is assuming the bikes are in good tune and have no other issues such as electrical, ect.

When I put on both Pods and a 4 into pipe my main jets will be 122.5, pilots #40 and a 1mm washer under each needle. That usually gets me a good running engine. Every bike is different but that should get it running decent.
