Ok so i got my bike running and it runs great. it cruises just fine and i can get all the way to fifth gear with out any problem. but when i try to accelerate past 65MPH it hesitates and i can feel myself slowing down. i can get it to 70 but only downhill. the previous owner put pods on it and rejetted the carbs but i dont know what kind of jets he put in.

These are the things that i have done
cleaned the carbs
cleaned and re-gapped the points
adjusted the timing with a timing gun
replaced the crush washers on the exhaust headers

any help would be greatly appreciated

There are members here with a similar bike/ setup. So the one thing needed is the sizes of jets that you have now. You need to know what you have, how its set for the Pod's. The Main Jet and Needle would eb the sizes to report back with, along with where the clip on the needle is, or if it has been shimmed with washers. The Pilot jet size would also help too.
Before making jetting changes there is a few things, one make sure the ignition is correct full spark. This means check the voltage at the coils, make sure it is near battery voltage. Second, the Wet Fuel Level in the Carbs needs to be checked, not just the dry float height.
Someone will post what they are running on their 650. ;)

What year of 650, that is going to tell which carbs you have, CV or VM. Does it have a 4 into 1 pipe? If you have the VM24 carbs and the only mod is pods this jetting should get you in the ball park.

+1 with Baldy- I'm running almost the exact setup. Mine is just running a Dynojet stage three kit in it, but needle on the same slot. Pulls HARD when you're in the top end.

Stock exhaust and airbox? If so, the bike would really like 102.5 mains, #15 pilots, needle clips on the middle notch, and mixture screws at 1.5 turns out from seated position. This assumes that you have the VM24 Mikuni carbs.

OK. But it doesn't have the airbox it has pod filters like I stated on the original post.

Got to watch out for these "experts" that can't even read the original post.
One thing I didn't see that you checked was the condition of the Pod filters, make sure they are clean,if paper the best you can do is compressed air from the inside out. If they are K&N's you can use there cleaning fluid, but I've never had trouble using kerosene (off-road diesel) then oil them up with the filter oil.

The float level vs wet fuel level is way over rated, :cheer: They don't just pull those float adjustment numbers out of their asses, "X" amount of float measurement will give "Y" amount of fuel in the bowl. These aren't just determined by a crap shoot. I'm sure some people have found a big difference, but just as many, such as myself have never found a big variation. One of the least useful tools I've ever bought for my bike,(in 35 yrs). Just my 2 cents

The real solution is to lose the pods unless you are going racing :unsure:
Ebay can fix you up without hurting the wallet too much
