So I got the KZ650 running, fresh carb overhaul with some new emgo pod filters. Stock exhaust, and stock jet sizing.

When I ran through the gears, the bike had very little power in the higher RPMs. I took the pods off and ran it with no filter at all, ran great. This would suggest that it was running rich with the pod filters attached, correct? If that is the case, what kind of pod filters are these? I thought pod filters were supposed to increase airflow.

We're you running the air box before or some other pods?

Check to make sure your pods are not blocking the little orifices located near the edge of the carb throats. Some pods restrict air flow through them. Ed

just to be sure, you did not oil the pods, correct? Emgos are to be run dry.

I was running the stock airbox before. Im really trying to avoid going back to the stock airbox, it just sucks so bad trying to take it on and off.

Thanks! I totally forgot about that issue, I will check that out tonight.

No oil on the emgos. They are indeed dry.

Does anyone know a good set of velocity stacks that would fit these carbs? I saw the ones for sale at Z1enterprises, but looking for something a bit nicer, with a screen. Bike is a '79 KZ650B, accelerator pump type.

re-installed the stock airbox. Was definitely a good decision i feel. For the first time, I went for a ride that lasted at least an hour without any issues

People give up on things to easily and then say "your bike will never run right with pods" to everyone who tries it. Nothing on these bikes is "plug and play". :S
