Got the carbs back on my 78 cables adjusted, new boots and carb holders, but i can only getthe idle down to 2/2500 rpm
If i twist forward on the throttle i can drop her to the grand range until i let off, i assume pop the carb tops off and drop all four slides equallywould be a good idea?

Have you tried turning the throttle stop knob counter-clockwise? Ed

That makes me suspect that it was not centered when the carbs were bench synch'ed. You may want to crank it in a fair amount and then drop the slides down an equal amount. If you do that and then synch the carbs you should end up being able to use the throttle stop in the future to adjust the idle. ed

Thats my thought so far, i didnt synch or bench synch them myself, just cleaned and replaced them.
Will try in the morning, this thing doesnt have a baffle in it and my neighbors already dislike me as it is

Took off the caps adjusters were way high, turned them all in a turn and a half, idles too low. Idle stop screw is to short, its an allen bolt, grabbed a different one and now it idles at 1500, pops quite a bit at idle but that did the trick
