I bought a 1976 KZ400 in early March, and drove it home (about 20 miles.) I didn't take it out until about a month ago, when I got the tank painted. Now, even though the tank looks beautiful, the bike is acting up.

I'll take it out, it will run five for about 3 miles, and then I'll feel a noticeable drop in power. I'll open up the throttle with no change in RPMS, and when I pull in the clutch the bike dies. I'll wait a minute or two and it will start back up fine, but then the same thing will happen in another mile or two. If I just let it idle in neutral, it will idle forever.

I cleaned out the carbs and ran some sea foam through, as well as installed inline fuel filters. I've got a new air filter on the way, and I think I cleaned the vent holes in the gas cap, but I'm not really sure where they are located.

Anybody have any ideas? I've never done anything mechanical before, so this is all brand new to me.

Check your petcock, sounds like a limited amount of fuel is flowing to the carbs.
Also use Berrymans b-12 instead of sea foam.
B-12 is a solvent, sea foam has oil in it.
