Sync carbs on 80 kz1000 shaft was created by JBKAW80
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and wanted to see if you guys could help me. I am restoring a 1980 KZ1000ST shaft drive and I am almost done. Does anyone have instructions on how to sync the carbs? I have purchased a sync kit but does not have instructions for this specific bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I highly recommend you buy a Kawasaki Service Manual for your bike. It contains tons of great info including everything from periodic maintenance to full rebuild. No KZ owner should be without one; they are worth their weight in gold. I believe both of the ones below cover your 1980 KZ1000-E2 (Shaft), but double check with the seller before buying. The back cover should list the models covered. Ed

So it sounds like you have the vacuum type, not the mercury type. You gotta take off the tank and hook up a way to feed fuel to it.Attach each gauge line to the vac nips(giggity) on each carb. Get a box fan,and put it on in front of the motor to help keep it cool.Start it up,and let it come up to temp. The jam nut and adjuster screw are in between the 1&2,2&3 ,3&4 carbs. The idea is to slightly loosen the jam nut and adjust the screws untill you get good steady equal vacuum accross all the gauges.Of course this is after you made sure the plugs, wires, timing and pilot system are all working correctly. If you have a mercury or liquid type, don't blip the throttle or you WIIL suck in the fluid and that will ruin your day,or possibly kill you when the mercury vaporizes thru the exhaust.Try to do the adjustment at the lowest posible idle speed it will take to get an accurate reading, maybe around 900-1100 rpm's.
