Jetting - Starting point

My 79 LTD 1000 came with race carbs and I am in the process of getting it back to stock. Just bought a set of 28mm Mikunis with accelerator pump. What is a good basis to start with, regarding main jets and needle settings? Running pods and V&H 4-in-1. Thanks!

Which race carbs did it come with? For your 28's I would go with the 122.5 main jets a 17.5 pilot jet with the clip in the middle slot for the needles.

There are probably more goodies inside considering it had 40mm Lectrons on it. What cams are in it?

To be honest, I don't know. The guy I bought it from was in the process of turning it into a dragbike, but he hadn't touched the engine, so couldn't tell me if it was stock or not (he also had bought it from someone a couple months earlier). I rode on the street with the Lectrons and WOW, like a 2-stroke above a certain rpm. I guess at some point I will take a look inside.
