Hey guys...recently bought a Z1B and the petcock has two nipples. Only one is being used to supply fuel to the carbs, other one is capped off.
Guessing this is not stock and if so, why would the PO do it.
The bike runs great so no causing an issue, I'm just curious and want to bring back to stock.

Thanks

Looking at the Kawasaki.com diagram for the Z1B it appears that the original petcock did have 2 nipples. The second one is barely visible, but it looks like it is there. Ed

Yeah, thanks for posting that. Just looked at my carbs, there is only one fuel line feeding the Mikunis.

Z guys - do you have two fuel lines??

Maybe a P.O. swapped out the carbs. Ed

Thanks Ed

kawasaki.com shows "75 Z1-B with two fuel hoses, and two tee style fuel pipes.

It's common for one petcock outlet nipple to be capped off when replacing the stock dual hose carbs with single hose carbs such as smoothbores for example.

Good Fortune! :)

Thanks for the info. So, sounds like I may not have stock carbs, would not surprise me. Smoothbores would be sweet! The bike is very fast! Seems much faster than my Honda CB836 [750 bored out]
I'll snap some pics.

Thanks guys.

Some carb info at Z1E:

Each carb image may be clicked for a large view.

Appears that the stock carbs for Z1's and KZ900 have dual fuel hoses.

Good Fortune! :)

The best way and the quickest way to tell if you have 29mm Smoothbores is look for the little cast in square box with a round end of a piece of brass on the outside of #4 carb. That square box is right above the raised area of where the bowl mounts to carb body. The rubber piece on the kickstarter covers up this marking on #4 carb. Just unfold the kickstarter and look for that marking.

Z1 Enterprises shows what I am talking about on their LH picture of the 29mm Smoothbore carbs. Thats how I could tell if the KZ had 29mm Smoothbores on it!!!!

The pics are a little unclear in the "pilot screw" area, but the carbs seem to NOT have side-located pilot air screws, and would therefore have bottom-located pilot mixture screws (not visible in the pics).

Guessing the carbs at hand are 26mm from '77 or '78 KZ1000, evidenced by having bottom-located pilot mixture screws.

The '76 KZ900 also has 26mm, but with side-located pilot air screws.

The '78 and '79 KZ1000 cafe racers, and '79 KZ1000 Mark II, have 28mm with side-located pilot air screws.

Good Fortune! :)
