Has it recently exhibit these symptoms? Or its something you think was already there after adding the 4-1 and pods? It may be your float level may be too low and fuel deliver is not keeping up at that high rate of consumption. Are there any pinched/restricted fuel delivery lines? Or maybe, you may you need larger jets. Not sure what kind of advancer you have on the 82. But if not fuel related, could be ignition is week. Test battery and coils. Oh, I had an issue with leaking spark plug wires once that would cause that at high rpm but not a lower rpm's. The wire would arc. Check the spark plug caps while you are at it.

all this was on the bike when i purchased about 3 months ago. the fuel line is a little long going to filter so i know there is some restriction there because it is bent and a little kinked....i will replace this first and see if it fixes....then i will check float levels. i do not know what kind of jets it has. thanks......

Hi,

I have a 750 twin, and was having the same issue, not sure what your engine setup looks like, but mine has hoses coming from the airbox to the top of the head cover, which have a reed valve at the end that lets air into the exhaust port. Check to make sure that the reed valves are in the right way (with the reeds on the bottom so exhaust can't be fed back into the air box). Mine were upside down and once I flipped them, the issue went away.
Hope this helps, again, my engine's different than yours, but it's something to look at

I just recently replaced my head gasket...I have no air box and my reed valves have been connected to each other via a hose....is this the correct mod when air box is deleted? Running pod filters

Since you got the bike with pod filters installed I am curious if the one who put the pods in rejetted. check your exhaust pipes at the engine to see if they are blueish. If so then the bike is most deffinately running lean and likely the carbs need to be rejetted.

The header is cerama-coated so there is no discoloration at all

Which area are you getting leaks from? Not familiar with your model/year. Does your model use a mechanical tack cable? If so, it may be leaking from where the cable goes into the head. Also, I have been using Permatex Copper gasket spray after I saw some recommendations from other members that used it. So far I love the stuff. Used it on my old valve cover gasket, even though I had a new gasket available, just to see how well it would work. No leaks so far 6 months later. Also used on my oil pan and stator cover gaskets. No issues. But first you need to identify where the leak is coming from.

Bummer! Had you split the cases in the recent past? If so should have used a bead of high quality black RTV sealer. Maybe you did so its leaking anyhow. I will leave advise on this topic to others with more experience.
