KZ200 Gas Cap Vent Issue

17 Apr 2013 19:06

I suspect that my vent is not working properly. I made a previous post about an issue that I am having with my 78' KZ200. After the engine dies, I can hear hissing coming from the gas cap. I disassembled the vent and noticed that there is a fiber disk inside the vent assembly. It appears to be swollen and distorted. I suspect that this is causing too much vacum and starving the carb. I can not find a replacement part without buying a whole new gas cap assembly on ebay. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. This site has already been a great help. Thanks.

If you’re talking about the brown piece that the arrow is pointing to in the picture, Kawasaki did not sell that as a separate part. You may end up getting a cap with scratches or bad chrome but that has that piece in good shape from eBay or a bike breaker, or you may be able to find suitable material to make one. Lots of Kawasakis used that same cap (see list below) so finding a used one should be fairly easy. Ed

So I guess that just eliminating that part will result in too little vacum?

I just had a vent problem yesterday.
Try running it with the cap open.
That's how I got home, luckily the tank was not full.
