Yes the screws on top near intake. 1 1/2 turn is pretty standard starting point till u can put the guages on it. Guages are the only way to get it precise.

If you have a vacuum petcock that's not hooked to your carbs then you have an open hole on one of your carbs to lose vacuum through the same as if you had a bad intake boot. You should look real close at your carbs or your intake boots and see if there is a nipple there that is not plugged.

Just to follow up, I went ahead and bought a sync kit. The bike is at home and I'm at college (I go home on the weekends) so I'll check the vacuum leak and get that hose hooked up asap! I'll post my results here!

My bike sat for years (like 15) and it took some serious cleaning to get the carbs right. I had them apart at least 5 times. I soaked them in a carb cleaner basket from advance auto first but couldn't get a stable idle either. The last thing I did was take them apart and blow every hole out w an air hose. It cured my bike. Runs like a bat out of hell now and i have no problems w idle. Check ur pilots to be sure they are open if all is clean it still sounds like a vacuum leak.

Just a quick question here, what is this part and where does it go?

After disassembling the carbs I never saw one, the PO bought a kit and installed it into one of the carbs (not sure what one) and this was in the parts bag he gave me.
