I'm working on the carbs on an original '79 KZ1000E-1 its Canadian spec. Can someone tell me if the vents off of #2 & 4 carbs are supposed to go back to the two hose barbs that are on the left side of the airbox by the air intake elbow?
Thanks
Thanks

I have a 79 KZ1000 E-1 as well. Mine doesn't have any airbox barbs that I could see. I just ran the vent lines over the airbox, but having them connected to the airbox would have been better.

Here's the stock carb vent hose routing on 1976 KZ900-B1 LTD.
Some owners allow the hoses to hang down from the vent nipples a short distance or route longer hoses to exit into open air underneath the bike.
Or the nipples could be left uncapped without any hose connected.
The important point is to allow the vent nipples to "vent" and not be in any way obstructed or prevented from connecting to open atmosphere.
Exiting into the air box is considered the same as opening to atmosphere.
The two carb vent nipples serve to vent all four carb float bowls, which venting prevents so-called "vapor lock."
Such venting of the carb bowls serves the same purpose as venting the fuel tank via the cap, being to promote free gravity flow of fuel.
Good Fortune!

I don't think my bike has those, I prefer to run the hoses over the air box for a cleaner install that trying to route them down to the barbs.
