pods or air box was created by jonarmstrong
My bike is an 82kz1000 ltd. I've got a little skip developed and my bike doesn't want to idle the same all the time. I'm constantly turning the idle screw to find a good idle. I know my carbs are clean. Was just in them last night. A friend is telling me to put a factory box on and get rid of the pods and all my troubles will go away. True?

Provided your Carburetors are clean, and you have no Air Leaks, or the Diaphragms are not Cut or Torn the bike should run fair to midland. An air box is king however.

Did this "skip" suddenly appear and has the bike been running fine with the pods in the past?

Seems to have suddenly appeared. Not that the carbs were tuned properly from the start. The plugs are still on the air screws

Good point! I have always used the factory airbox and I'm still fat and ugly. :( Ed

Right!! If my problems w the motorcycle would go away I could go away from my other problems! Thanx guys. I'll find an air box. There's one for an 82 police on eBay. Will it fit?

the stock air boxes on the old kz's suck they were designed to cut down air intake noise not to improve flow if you spend some time and use good quality filters k&n not emgo or cheap Chinese knockoffs you can get your carbs working well put a dyno jet kit since you have cv carbs in it and it will be very tuneable, one other thing to consider is what pipe you have on it. it still sounds like your carbs passages are partially blocked pull the plugs out and remove the screws and re clean those passages. then try it again the bike is definitely lean if its hunting like you have described.

Dyno jet kit? Can I get that from a local cycle shop? I have the k&n pods and just cleaned and oiled them it has a 4 into 1 vance n hines drag pipe that I cut and made a shorty header out of. Used a piece of pipe to run under the bike and used the same muffler. Didn't want to run the drag brake n shifter setup. The previous owner shimmed the carb needles and 140 mains were installed leaving stock 37.5 pilots. He was supposedly drag racing but I've come to realize not much of what he told me was true. I looked at the plugs yesterday and they appeared to have good color. I'm gonna pull the carbs again and pull the plugs over the air screws and clean them like u said. Hope it helps!
