79 kz1000st, stock airbox with K&N, 1045 Wiseco,Mac 4-1,Kenny Harmon 380 cams, non pumper 28's.
The bike had stock jetting of 15 pilot, 105 main and clip in the second from top (Canadian spec jetting). I put 110's in and ran the bike but have not ridden it yet. The bike ran well but the mixture screws liked to be set at 3/4 turn. I was thinking of going to 115 main, 17.5 Pilot and clip in the middle groove, How much does 1 pilot size change the mixture screw?

With how you have yours set up, I would run the 17.5 pilots. It will start easier and idle better.

I have it back together now. It will idle smooth and steady down to about 900 rpm, the mixture screws are now at about 1 1/4 turns out. It seems to take about the right amount of time to get off the choke when warming up, so I think she's ready to ride :woohoo: I hope they clean the winter sand off the roads soon!

The 17.5 pilot, middle clip and 115 main might get you in the ball park for jetting, you might even have to go to 120's with pods. My bike has a K&N in the stock airbox, I've ridden the bike now and it is running perfectly, I suspect fuel mileage won't be great, I wanted it a bit rich for the HC pistons to resist detonation. With pods it will run a bit leaner than mine.

I have an 82 Kz1000 with stock mikuni's. I'm running a 42.5 pilot and 120 mains and have no clips on needle. Are these totally different carbs?

Yes they are different your 82 should have the Mikuni BS34 which are vacuum operated. The 70's series bikes up to 1980 use the Mikuni VM series which are manually operated. Completly different carbs.
