1908 KZ 1000 LTD JETTING was created by need to know
Hello, Help from anyone with experience jetting Z1s & KZs would be appreciated.

I need to jet the carbs.

I have a 1980 KZ 1000 B 4 LTD.

It has a Kerker 4 into 1 { Baffle Removed }. I like the sound....

It has the individual K&N air filters - the larger ones not the cones.

I believe the carbs to be the original stock ones ?? with the idle air adjustment screw on the side of each carb.

I believe the stock jetting was.

15 pilot jet.

102 main jet.

I'm not sure what position the needle was supposed to be set at?

Since I'm sure someone has changed the jets and or settings I am hoping to find someone who has the same set up and can tell me what jetting you have, so I have some sort of starting point. I would like to minimize the # of times I have to tear down to re-jet.

The jets that are in it now are.

15 pilot jet.

120 main jet.

Thanks !

How does it run with those jets? What do the plugs look like? Will idle well, will it pull to red line well?

IIRC the stock carbs on an 80LTD were vm26ss carbs and in the US market they had an accelerator pump, is that what you are working with? I think stock the needle was set to the 4th slot. Do the carbs have a pilot or air screw?

Off the top of my head I would think you would need to start with a larger pilot jet, a 17.5 and a smaller main, more like a 115 or so.

1980 LTD model had VM28SS carbs. Stock jetting was 102.5 main and 15 pilot. Clip was on the third (from bottow) slot.

I would get a size 20 idle jet. How does the bike run?

17.5 pilots and you have the right main jet.

Thanks, It seems to run pretty good mid range to full throttle, but I've only driven it in very short amounts of time . At Idle it intermittently sneezes out the carbs and pops at the exhaust, but NOT MUCH. However it does NOT want to run very well at low end and at idle it runs hot very fast.
I'm sure the pilot jet is too small. I have not checked the spark plugs as far as the mid and top end yet. There are no air leaks around the carbs. The carbs have a pilot screw on the side of each carb. They do not have the air screw that was under some of the carbs. They do have an accelerator pump. Is there a good place that sells good jets with a big selection for a good price? I hope to try something soon as spring is coming!
