1983 KZ750 L3, MIKUNI BS34 CARBS...
replace carbs with what? was created by suspect13
i've been following the forum for a little while now, anonymously... i've got an 83' KZ750 L3 (first bike!). bought it last october for $400 in the pouring rain. i planned to rebuild each carb using new rebuild kits. while disassembling, i noticed each set of floats has a pin that runs through them. in order to remove the floats you must first displace the pin from the two arms that hold the floats in place. unfortunately, someone before me broke off one of the two arms, completely. the float still works and the bike still runs. for good measure, since the bike runs, i'd like to replace the carbs...
carbs are not cheap and finding a complete set for the bike has been difficult. after looking around though, i located a set of carbs from an 84' GPZ750/ZX750. my question is, will the carbs i located (84' GPZ750/ZX750) fit my 83' KZ750 L3? if so, what additional hardware will it take to match them up?
i believe both sets of carbs are of type "MIKUNI BS34".
have a look. i realize the photo is $#*% but you can kinda see the damage i described above...

The KZ750-L3 has the same carb holders & airbox ducts as most (if not all) of the 750-4s. The airbox looks the same & is probably pretty much the same. So you can probably use the carburetors from just about any KZ750-4 & some of the KZ700s & ZX750s that also come up in the cross-reference, including the 84 GPz. And probably a direct fit. Not sure about the throttle cable & grip, though.

With used carbs, my primary concern would be that nothing is broken... broken jet needle, float pin support, emulsion tube, that sort of thing. A used set should be rebuilt anyway, so as long as nothing of consequence is damaged & they're otherwise complete, you'll be okay, hopefully.... you'll know soon enough. hee.

yeah, was planning on rebuilding them when they arrive, providing they're a match... otherwise, back on the web they go. i'm hopeful everything will be in decent enough condition with no serious damage. after talking with a buddy about the damaged carb, he didn't seemed bothered in the least and encouraged me to run it, as is... you're right, we'll confirm soon enough.
with that said, thanks for offering your insight along the way martin.

He doesn't need a float - the carb body is damaged.
