Carbs to air box boots was created by slayer61
Fellas, I am brand new to this forum and this looks like a place to hang out while I'm at work!

So, here's the question... My Mrs. has a '84 GPZ550 that I have stripped the carbs off of again to clean them up and install a Dyno jet kit. In the past I have done this and remember that fitting the boots back on was a major pain in the @ss! I did a quick search on your site but didnt come up with anything... Is there a simple way to reinstall the boots between the carbs and the airbox? Thanks in advance, Paul

Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

If the ducts are hard, you could replace them. Otherwise, heat them up in hot water or use a heat gun. You have to move kinda quickly before they cool.

Do yourself a huge favor and replace them; new ones are quite pliable and not difficult to install. They are still available from Kawasaki, so any dealer can order them for you or you can get them online. Ronayers.com list them at $9.01 each.

Thanks for the tips fellas. The boots were new last year and were still very plyable when I removed them last week. It never occured to me to gently warm them up prior to installing them  That is a "top tip" and will surely make the re-install much easier!

My Mrs. can be very difficult at times... I bought K&N pod filters for her bike and dammed if she doesn't say "but all the bikes in the shop are HOT RODDED up- I want mine to stay pretty stock! grumble grumble piss moan complain......

Ok, if they are only a year old they shouldn't be too hard to install. Mine were 26 years old before I replaced them and they were as hard as diamonds.  BTW, your Mrs. may have saved you lots of tuning time by rejecting pods on those CV carbs. You may owe her a box (or 2) of chocolates. B) Ed

The ZRX doesn't have pods, but the GS1100 with the Keihin CRs does as does the 580cc Yamaha 500 flattracker with the VM38 AND the 660cc J&M framed flattracker with the TM40-6... and they all work very well, thank you

A long, 12", hooked 90 degree pick/ hose tool is what I use. Makes it real easy to reach in and get the center two on my K2. Leave the springs on the boots, just roll them back when you remove them. Then once the boot is re-connected, roll the springs back in place. he outer two are easy enough, its the inner two where the tool comes into use.

Well after all the helpful tips, I have found that it's just easier to get the Mrs. to attach the boots herself! :woohoo: She did and the bike is off the work bench and has cleared a place for my latest project bike! Over the weekend I acquired a GPZ1100 from another member on this forum (thanks Justin!) and soon it will be stripped, cleaned, painted and tarted up as a vintage muscle bike should be! B) Paul
