carbs for GPZ Eleven?

hey guys i have a few sets of carbs here for project new oldskool

a set of 34mm cv's and a set of 28mm smoothbores.

im guessing the 34's would be better for my build or should i sell both
and try to fing the cash for some flatslides?

First off those VM28's you have are not smoothbores and as for the BS34 I installed a set on my ELR clone without much success. My engine is an 82 GPZ1100 with an MTC 1135cc big bore kit with stage 1 head porting from PitStop Performance. Could never get them tuned correctly, really bad flat spot right off idle and could not get them to idle down as they should. I put a lot of money and time into those BS34's with no good results.
There are people who have used BS34 with success on the 1100 engine but based on my own experiences I would stay away from them.
Those VM28's are going to be to small for that engine.
I eventually ended up with Mikuni RS36 flatslides and they work fantastic.
Do yourself a favor and just sell what you have and buy the Mikuni RS flatslides.

The stock 28's on my 79 kz1000st actually measure about 28.5 just like yours do.

Post a right side picture of the carbs as they would sit on bike,the bodies on the 29s are aluminum not the heavy die cast/zinc like 26s/28s

If you can afford it, I'd definitely go for some flatslides.

I had some Mikuni RS36's on my '81 GPZ1100 many years ago. The only problem was that the fuel tank petcock rubbed the top of the #1 carb, so I had to replace the petcock with an inline type. Other than that, I loved the carbs. Wish I still had them.

There should be an ID stamped on the set of carbs in question. It will either be on the flange below the choke handle or on the same flange on the outside of #4 carb. If you were to post what the ID is we should be able to tell you what they are.

OK with that ID I would say they are VM28ss carbs, info I can find indicates they would of been a stock item on the 1980 KZ1000 D3 sold in the Canadian (non-US) market. As I understand it the D3s sold in the US had carbs marked with 1204 and those in Canada with 1126. They are both VM28ss carbs but the ones intended for the US market were jetting leaner to meet EPA standards, than those in other markets.

I have a 1000J motor with 1100 top end and am planning on going with the BS34's I hope I can get them dialed in correctly.

What jetting should I start at?
