KZ 1000 carb question was created by Jay Hoover
I tried to post this question earlier but I dont see it on the forum. Sorry if it gets posted twice.
Can anyone tell me what carbs came on a 1978 KZ 1000 ltd. And what about other year KZ 1000s. What carbs came on what years. Specifically I am looking for information on the 1977-80 years.
I have my eye on a low mileage KZ1000. The PO drained the gas 15+ years ago. I know I will have to pull the carbs and rebuild, maybe some other work too. Is there a better carb that would work on that year bike? I plan to use this bike as a daily driver.
Thanks,

As far I as I remember, the 77-78's came with VM26's and the '79-80 came with VM28's. I'm sure someone else will chime in to confirm or deny that.

If he drained the gas, I wouldn't pull the carbs until I knwo they are a problem. Put gas in it and see what happens, you never know. I have pickled motorcycles for up to 7 years and just added gas. The bikes started right up and ran fine.

Yes, that is the plan. Next weekend when I go check out the bike, I am going to take some gas, starter fluid, basic tools just to see if I get a spark.
