Velocity Stacks on a KZ550 was created by pwash13
Hey Folks,
So I recently picked up a 1980 KZ550A and have been working on it a good bit. I plan on changing the air intake and exhaust set up and one of the mods that I want to do is to put some velocity stacks on the carbs. I have been looking around on ebay and haven't really found any stacks that seem to be made for this bike. I read that these carbs have a 40mm diameter, so do I just need to pick up some 40mm diameter velocity stacks. Seems right to me, but I don't like returning things.......
Thanks,
Peter

Save your motor, install a set of pods or a stock airbox on there.
Anything smaller than a duck will get sucked right into the motor through the velocity stacks and do bad things to your carbs/motor

I know the risks of them, and I plan on putting some mesh in there to work as a filter also. That with the aid of a mud guard on the back should prevent most of the junk. All this being said, your comment is noted and 4 fresh K&N's are definitely a part of my thought process as well.
Thanks,
Peter

You'll probably be doing some rejeting, so you may want to check out the TK-22 carb info link in my signature.
Here's what I run. Zero maintenance, and never gunk up your leather gloves while adjusting idle speed etc. $8 each.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

A friend of mine runs the velocity stacks on his bike covered with nylon stockings.
