VM22ss or VM24ss? what am i looking at? was created by NickMac
Hey all.
I was rebuilding a set of vm24ss carbs and i measured the internal bore diameter of what i thought where vm22ss and compared them too the 24s.
If you look at the pics, the front of the "vm22ss"carbs have the 10 o'clock hole and measured almost the same as the "vm24ss"carbs with no hole.
I have a feeling i have made an error in measurment, but the bores are nearly the same inside diameter
Serial numbers of "vm22ss" (with 10 o'clock notch) = N8
41
Serial numbers of "vm24ss" (without 10 o'clock notch) = 108

Thanks for your input

See if you can measure the intake side of the throat where it meets the slide. If not, maybe you can cut a circle out of cardboard to place in there to compare the 2 carb types. Ed

Take the measurement near the slides. The VM24s on my 81 KZ650 are 24mm there (and ~26mm on the engine side at the sport where you measured them). I didn't have a proper tool to fit inside the carb bore, so I cut out a 24mm piece of cardboard.

Identifying them is easy. If they have the orifice shown by the arrow in the pic, they are VM22 carbs.

As others have said you need to measure them where the slide meets the throat.
The N8 41 is much like others I have seen on vm22ss carbs. If the vm22ss carbs came off of a (K)Z650 they would of been used stock on the B2A and/or D1A. They should only have a pilot screw - no air screw.
The 1084 would indicate a set of vm24ss carbs that were used stock on the 1979 models (B3, C3, D2) and had an accelerator pump. They would of come with just an air screw - no pilot screw.
