VM24ss 1.75 cutaway spring?? was created by NickMac
I stripped my vm24ss carbs so I could dip them in the paint can carb cleaner. I'm having some issues getting two parts off. One is the bottom O-ring on the accelerator pump post that protrudes into the bore (see picture). The second is the plastic piece on the outside of the slide bore (opposite slide guide/see pic).

1) Any tips on removal is much appreciated
2) Is it necessary to remove these parts for the carb dip?
3) Is the carb dip appropriate if these parts can not be removed?

thanks!

The pump nozzles are press fit into the carb body.

As for the 2nd photo, that plastic "plug" is new to me - no one has ever mentioned it that I recall.... never noticed that before, but my 81 650's carbs have it.

I was planning on using the autozone special. I think the brand starts with a B like Barrymore or something similiar.

Do you think it will hurt if i tape the O-ring off then dunk them or should i just go for gold and dunk the body with the O-ring exposed?

Thanks

Berrymans, make sure to rinse the parts really good with aerosol carb cleaner after soaking them in the berrymans.
The berrymans Ive got leaves a film like thin syrup if you don't rinse parts really good after soaking them B)

I would replace the o-rings. A HarborFreight etc metric o-ring kit should have a size that's close enough. I replaced the pump nozzle, main-jet/bleeder-pipe, & drain screw o-rings from a HF kit.

Went to harbor freight and the o-ring kit was perfect! thanks for the suggestion.

NOW, Im trying to reasmble my carbs and the valves have a cutaway of 1.75. There are 2 rubber bumpers and a spring that im not sure how to assemble. the valves have a larger diameter needle hole to accomodate this spring. I have another set of vm24ss and they have 1.5 cutaway and did not have space for spring and no bumpers upon comparative dissasemble. See pics for comparison

Further, those parts are not seen on any diagrams or in any rebuild kits i have been able to find.

Thanks!

I don't know how those parts fit. You could try the diagrams at PowerSportsPlus.com for various KZ650s.

Check the accelerator pump by supplying fuel to the carbs & prime the pump circuit, then actuate the throttle pulley vigorously: fuel should squirt out the pump nozzles straight back without hitting the carb bore walls.
