To pod or not to pod? was created by Calico
I have a 1982 KZ750LTD. I finally acquired a mcct and while I was at it I found a quad set of pod reasonably priced. I've heard mixed opinions about them but I wanna give'em a shot to see for myself. My question is this; With the carbs I have (non adjustable needle) do I have to do anything to them prior to pod install? Thanks in advance!

I would keep the stock air box as pods can cause problems with the tune of carbs and bike. It involves more than flipping air filters.

Just stay stock....and enjoy.

I believe it'd best to stay with stock, putting pods on will most likely lean out your pilot jet. Its hard to tell most bikes run rich from factory so it may not bother at all and run better. But you may only have to adjust mixture screw.

On the upside, you won't need any other hobbies besides working on your bike....

Haha! Thanx guys. Now, has anyone done this job before? Also, should the vac switch just be plugged?

Yes,fer sure just run a car type heater hose between the two caps.PLUG OFF the carb taps that the Air Suction System drew it's vacuum from.Should be two of them.FULLY clean and rebuild the carbs.Go up on the mains to a 127.5 if you have stock pipes,or a 130 main if you have 4-1 after market. That should fatten it up enough.

If you spring for a proper jet kit, the pods work without much effort in tuning. If you don't, it's rather like eating soup with a fork. Possible but not practical :)

I know that it's late thanking you but I really appreciate the advice. Hey, should I just put a breather on the crankcase or plug that as well?
