Smoothbore is a manual slide carb, meaning the throttle slide has direct connection to the throttle cable.

CV (constant velocity) carb throttle slide is controlled by a diaphragm, absent direct connection to the throttle cable.

There are several KZr threads about the pros and cons of BS34 carbs, which are CV carbs.
