Carb sync problem
20 Jun 2006 15:37
Hi All, I am new to the board and was hoping for some help.
I have A 79 650SR and I was going to try to adjust the carbs but there are only 2 places to hook up the lines too, the #2 and #3 carbs. What I got from the Clymer book (which isn't very helpfull with carbs) is that there should be a spot to plug in on the rubber boots that connect the carbs to the intake. There was even a pic but mine is different. I only had them on the 2 middle carbs not the outers. How do I test the outer carbs to adjust them?
Thanks
Jamie

Welcome to KZrider. I think you are misunderstanding where to hook the vaccuum lines. Don't hook them to the carburetors fittings. Those are just breather lines. On your 4 black rubber intake manifolds that mount the carburetors to the head, each one has a vaccuum port. On 78 and prior years all 4 are positioned pointing down and out with a rubber cap you remove to have access to hook your vaccuum lines. On a 79 the 2 inner carbs will have this setup, but the 2 outer carbs will have the manifolds mounted with the vaccuum port facing up and in with vaccuum lines attached to them. On these you simply remove the existing vaccuum lines and hook your carb synchronizer lines there instead. This gives you your 4 spots to hook the synchronizer to.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

thanks, I will give that a try. Just wasn't sure where to hook the outers to.
I see Ron that you don't live that far from me. I just live down south of you in Littleton.
