i have a 1980 kz 440 its my first street bike when i got it i wasnt running that good it had a hard time leaving the line out with out dying anless you reved it up and slowly let out on the clutch... so i put pods on it and strait pipes and cleaned the carbs thinking that might help... but it didnt at all it steal ran the same and super lean and i was haveing lots of problems with it so i asked this old biker guy and he said to drill out the jets in it so i did and now it starts right up and sounds good and it even revs nice and is snappy but it wont go anywhere as soon as you rev it up to much or try to go it bogs down and wont go... i thought it was the float levels but i set thoughs and nothing changed... please help

and i dont want to hear that its the pods or pipes i know there is a way to make this bike run fine with out the stock air box i have seen this bike bobbed out and no one has the stock air box

How many sizes up in jets did you do. A rule of thumb someone told me was two sizes for evey modification. So you'd want to up your jets about 4 sizes based off of the pos and the exhaust.

1/16 inches is 1.5875 mm so I believe your current jet size went from ??? to 158 nanometers after drilled. I am not positive that is the measuring system for jets. When jetting you have to know what size you need and what your changing to. Its very important not to overlook. Here is a useful carb tuning theory link I found through this site...

Do your carbs look like the ones in the diagram below? If so, they are CV (constant velocity) carbs. Don't get angry, but is well known that these are difficult to properly tune for pods. Since you are determined to run them with no airbox I suggest you use the search feature on this site to see how other folks have tuned them for pods. There is a lot of info posted here on the subject that may be helpful, but some of the folks who dealt with the issue before may not answer your request for help because they no longer own the bike or visit this site; that's why I recommend you try the search feature. And they don't have the stock carbs they're running a slide type carb that doesn't have the vacuum diaphragm.
As for pods,if they block the air bleed ports you'll never get it right.
