I have a kz1000st (Canadian Model) I am gathering stuff to overhaul the bike this fall. I wanted to get a float level guage but I am unsure exactly what carbs i have. I see two different tools listed on z1 website. Any suggestions?

The carbs you most likely have are Mikuni VM28SS pumpers. They were OEM on 1979-80 Models of the shaft drive. Sevice fuel (clear hose method) is, by book, 4 plus or minus 1 mm. The clear tube method is all I use on all my builds. You can set them dry at around 24mm and then check via clear tube (wet) method and make final adjustments as necessary.

Hey Spyder!

Everyone, meet Spyder. He rebuilds carbs for the KZ. He rebuilt my VM26 a couple of years ago. Damn good job, too.

How have you been?

Perhaps. I know I've seen carbs on eBay that say they are from a shaft but they seem to have an accelerator pump visible which mine doesn't have. With the clear tube method there must be a fitting that screws into the carb drain bowl I take it.

The lilts I have coming have needles and jets etc. what would a main jet size be for a 4 into 1 be. I took the carbs off today and they are a real mess. The bike has been eating gas and running really rich.
