KZ1000 LTD carby question was created by PRM068
G'day guys,

long question, short......regarding a Mikuni carb on a 1982 KZ1000 LTD.....would a faulty "o" ring on a carby float valve (where the needle goes), cause fuel to flood the cylinder ?

Been thinking a problem with my bike has been too much fuel in the carb, maybe because of float issues. The No.2 cylinder is always wet and eventually the plug can't handle it anymore and the cylinder may as well be dead. Still goes good though (the bike in general).

I did a glass tube test - seems good. Pulled the carbs apart, floats "float".....pulled the needle and seat out...."o" ring looks stuffed. It broke actually. Could this cause fuel to run past and flood the cylinder ?

Any help appreciated.

Peter.

Yes. Those O-Rings need to seal, or fuel can enter the carb without being controlled by the float valve. Change those out, and make sure the screen above them is clean.

Thanks mate.

Going to try and source some o rings locally tomorrow to get by, as ones from the states will take over a week to get here. I really hope this was the problem all along.

You might just get rebuild kits for the carbs. About $25 USD ea + shipping to you. They will have new flat valves as well as the o-rings, plus the gaskets, o-ring for the mixture screws, etc.
The manual link in my signature will have your bike/ carbs.

No Accel pumps on those, they are BS34 CV Mikuni's.
Sensor diaphragm? You mean the Slide Valve Diaphragm? Always check them when working on the CV style carb.
