I noiced something strange, when I put my kickstand down and let my bike tilt on it's side my RPM jumped from 3000 to7000. Floats?

I am also having trouble with idle at stops where I have to keep on turning it down at least 5-8 times on a trip. This may be unrelated though.

Please help.

When you put the bike on side stand, the bike's front wheel naturally turns. When it does, the cable is pulling. Check cable routing and adjust your cable so there is some slack at he end that inserts in the carb. You should see a bit of VISUAL SLACK. The idle issue at stop lights is likely not related. If you let the bike warm fully, have you set the idle? Lots of the Tekei carbs are a bit cold blooded and the owners usually try and set the idle when the bike is still not fully warmed and will be adjusting the idle at stop lights. It could be that the throttle cable has insufficient slack as well which may contribute.

Thanks man, there is still close the same amount of throttle play when the bike is in both postitions. maybe slightly tighter when on it's side but there is still some slack. To check this i loosened accel cable more than usual and the bike still idles high on side.

Also, I feel the high idle at stops is way beyond the normal operation for this bike.

my 83 750 LTD has the same issue as yours, like when I come to a stop light, even with the choke all the way off, it continues to rev to like 3-4k.


it only happens about 1 time per ride, so I'm not that worried about it.

This happens to me even when my bike has warmed up fully and happens 5+ times per trip. I haven't taken it oput for more than one 2+ hours ride though.

are your cables lubed?or have a rough spot?

they are about 2 years old, I tried to lube them one time with one of those tools but I remember not understanding how those tools worked so I think I just tried to get as much wd40 as i could. I'll check it out.

It's still doing this after lubing the cables and adjusting them correctly. It really makes me thing the floats are off. maybe the boots aren't holding well when the bike tilts?
