Just purchased a 1981 kz1100 shaft drive.. my questions are as followed.. i was thinking of putting open pod filters on. i have cut the stock exhaust and pulled the guts out of the cans.. do i need to rejet to have the bike run at its best... i have the stock 120 jets in but i have 130s on hand..also i heard that i can take the hose that comes from the valve covers and connect them when i put the air pods on... thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum!
I think you'd be looking at a re-jet if you did either of the mods you're describing (pods & removing baffles) Since you're doing both I'm thinking yes you're going to need to re-jet.

Fairly new my self have an 1980 kz1k a4 I have open pods on mine with the stock 2 to 1 pipes on it and Ive been playing with different jets sizes as well stock on mine are a 107.5 with open pods I have 110s in ATM bummed my 112.5 didn't come in yet cause she needs those in it... When I bought the bike and opened the carbs I found 127.5 way to big fOr just open pods and stock Exahust... Found outhe stock jets were a 107.5 by searching the bike on performance sports plus .com great place lists every little piece for the carbs if they can be replaced or not and the option of ordering parts as well

If I'm right the breather that connects to the valve covers is the vacuum breather that connects to te carb seats I recommend replacing the hoses and citing the long breather tube that ran to the air box and put a small air pod in the house ad have it sit just under the tank I'll post a pic later when I get off work of what I my self have done to mine

So I can bring the hose that goes from the valve covers to the plug in the trans.. also would it be better to leave stock air box on with the gutted exhaust and 130 jets..

Think twice before moving to Pods. Trying to get carbs dialed in after moving to pods is probably the single most common thing that sends people to the looney bin here. There are certainly plenty of guys who get them working fine, but there's at least as many who think they've found an easy upgrade and spend the next 5 years wondering why their bike doesn't run right.

I'd like to go pods eventually myself. But my recomendation would be to hold onto that airbox, you may end up wanting to put it back later.

U make a valid point I wish when I bought my bike it has the air box but sadly no had open pods on it... An u are right about going to the looney bin I'm fighting getting the right jet size with open pods and stock Exahust I feel I'm winning the battle cause e is running a lot better with the 110s I put in instead of the 127.5s that were in it when I bought the bike... Stock main jet size on mine is a 107.5
