Plastic piece in carb body was created by candyskateboards
Hello all, New to the forum and just really want to ride my Z. I'm just trying to ride for the rest of fall and just want to get this done today! Does anyone know if this piece is okay to soak in carb cleaner? I'm using Berryman's and Carb Medic(it has a little basket but doesn't seem as powerful).

Also does anyone what carbs these are? And while I am here does anyone know what model my KZ is? I've looked at the chart but it looks like my serial numbers do not fall in any of the categories. I'm probably just reading it wrong.

Those appear to be vm22ss carbs. The oblong vent like opening at about 10 o'clock in the carb intake is a give away for this. There should be an ID stamped on the flange just below the choke lever or on the same flange but on the other side of the carb set (outside #4). If they are vm22ss carbs from either a B2a or D1a kz650 then they will be one of the other of these:

102
6 some other letter or number may or may not follow the 6
or
104
6 again some other letter or number may or may not follow the 6

If they are a 1046 set and you can record the jet and needle sizes and the throttle cutaway and pass them I would appreciate it. I have been attempting to gather the info on the 1046 carbs.

Your frame number would indicate it is a 1978 B2A built in the US.

As to plastic parts and carb cleaner, depending upon length of time left to soak it can indeed damage the plastic.

Why thank you for the info! These are 1026's. I tried the boiling technique vs carb cleaner and they seems to be a pretty decent technique.

The plastic pin serves as a guide for the slide to sit in... I agree that the Berryman dip isn't as strong as it could be but that's what ultra sonic bathes are for ;) boiling works as well.... With the dip u don't want to let them soak more than four hours or it will begin to eat away...

Okay, well I'm finally putting them back together and figured I'd get set the floats, atleast check them. I've looked in my Clymer's and Chilton's manual and both suggest using the manometer. My first task is to get this bike running again. I've searched the forums and found info for the vm26's and a few other ones.

Is the float height supposed to be set at -+24mm?

The FSM I have access to indicates the design fuel level as 30 + or - 1 mm and the clear tube test at 3 + or - 1 mm. I would encourage you to use the clear tube test to set the floats.

General float height on most carbs should be set at about 90*

30mm, seems ridiculously high! I just checked mine with the carbs upside down and they are set to about 1,3, and 4 are set at 24mm and 2 is at 25mm. 30mm, seems about right when the carbs are right side up. From what I do remember, the floats were set to high last time I worked on the bike and it was overflowing, but I didn't take note which ones were over flowing.
