If a bike is kept in good condition & a fuel tank is rust free, then would an in-line filter be necessary?
His are probably well maintained.

That has been my experience with that type of filter. Eventually one of the ends will get soft enough to pull off like a Twizzler, just not as tasty.

Now I use those metal ones, as pictured above, but you have to make sure to screw them together tight enough or they can leak.

I'm also still using this one from Z1Enterprises, which so far hasn't softened like the cone-shaped filters. I expected it to, but I've had it for 3 years now.

I got my inline at a Honda dealer for a couple bucks. It's been on the bike for 4 years now and is still solid, last time I looked. Bob

It has been my experience that an inline filter is not only adviseable, but rather mandatory to insure a clean supply of fuel to the carbs. I know that there is a filter in most OEM and aftermarket petcocks, but to rely solely on them is asking for trouble. Even the aftermarket "junk" is, in my opinion, is better than nothing. It is obvious by the posted picture that something is going on, whether it be gas, additives, etc.. I guess I could imagine what it would have looked like once it reached the carbs. I get 'em everyday clogged up with junk. The common demonenator: no inline filter. Of course, everyone has their own opinion. Ride on Brothers.

I rode like 200,000 miles without this aftermarket crap on KZs and did fine, then thought I'd add one. I don't need the chinese crap. Why oh why aftermarket??? Chinese crap over and over and over again. They don't care they build and sell utter crap over and over again? I just don't understand the attraction to add ons, 99% of which are junk. I was a little dumb I guess, got these from Bikebandit and they listed them as some term, which I can't think of, but something along the terms of a rack, or pegboard of filters? ;) I thought I was getting like 20 filters for the $9.95 or whatever it was. I got ONE. $9.95 for one junk filter made in China  I'll just clean my carbs once every 50,000 miles for free. Junk, JUNK. I'm fed to shit with add on fricking shit that turns to crap in one day.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

hahahaha i agree for the most part and many people like wireman will as well. alot is simply bling. but theres a big difference between aftermarket performance and chang jiang universal parts. alot of the time if not all of the time you get what you pay for.

Only if there's no filter on the petcock tubes. You can find them aftermarket, just search "petcock filter".

Also, there's a debris trap in most petcocks that people tend to forget about.

This and a small clamp would work.
