Wondering where the vent is in the cap on my 1982 LTD 1000. After changing out fuel line and filter, checking compression changing plugs etc I took a ride tonight and left the cap unlatched.Like riding a different bike, will rev to 8000 now so as stated here on the forum a vacuum must be occurring in the tank and causing a fuel starvation issue but I've looked at the cap and don't see a vent or hole or anything else, any help appreciated.

Whadda ya got in that thing son?

Take out the screws holding the cap together, there should be a very small venting path built into the cap. It won't take much to cut off air going into the tank, causing fuel starvation problems.

Took the cap apart I think I see the path you were talking about as far as I can tell there is no blockage. The only thing I have changed would be the cap gasket I got from Z1 Enterprises after the paint was done but I used the same cap. Will take it out for another test ride this weekend and see if taking it apart made any difference, if not I guess I'll order a new cap. Thanks

Took the cap apart and didn't see anything so I put it back together and took it out tonight for a ride. Runs much better and will run up to redline without the stumbling I was experiencing was able to peg the speedo in 4th gear so this is way better than before and this fix was free. Still don't know what was blocking the vent but it had to be plugged as that was the only change.
