I got a 1980 kz1000 LTD given to me has sat for a long time. Got life back in it started running bad backfiring and popping. I was told I need accelerator pump diaphragm. Got to searching for the part and noticed some difference in the 79 and 80 parts list for the carbs. on the 79 kz1000 the accelerator pump sensor and sensor cover are listed but not on the 80 1000. I bought a set of carbs off of a 650 that has the accelerator pump sensor cover that I need. When taking the sensor cover off the 650 carbs I notice that the sensor diagram goes in to the float bowl through the bottom. On my 1980 carbs there is just a small dimple where the small prob/tit from the sensor diaphragm goes so it will not go into the float bowl. Did they do away with the sensor diaphragm on the 1980 kz1000 ltd? the accelerator pump rebuild kit i ordered for it comes with the same sensor that came off the 650 carbs I bought so I figure it still goes on but with the tit on it, it will not fit my carbs with out some type of modification. Has anyone else had this issue???

Kawasaki eliminated the sensor for the later carbs.

So then if Kawasaki done away with the Sensor diaprham I am curious then why the rebuild kit comes with it for the accelorator pump rebuild kit. If I do not need it then what is the proper steps for getting the pumper rebuilt and running right

K&L includes the sensor stuff because some carbs have it.

so then would i just replace the square diaphragm and spring and leave the sensor one off? I am guessing that there must be some kind of slight difference in the float bowl design to allow it to function correctly then with out the sensor diaphragm.

The accelerator pump ,and lack of should not make it back fire . Mine is a 1981 kz1000 police bike c-4. I am thinking the cop bike needed it for bottem end acceleration. The pump squirts more fuel in four carbs at the beginnin of acceleration . Mine is 1015cc , I would say check for coil bleed off, set timing ,and points, also check carb mixture screws, and clear the fuel jets if backfiring . hope this helps Charles Nix middle Ga.
