I have an 83 kz550 ltd and when I got it it was running great. I ran a couple tanks of through it and the overflows started leaking. I took the carbs off and cleaned the bowls and float needles. To say reinstallation was a pain is a huge understatement! Anyway, got them on after wrestling the air ducts for a while. Now when I try to start it it seems like it is starving for fuel b/c it tries to crank but of I give it throttle it just dies. I really want to ride again and now wish I had never taken it apart. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Well after building countless small block Chevys I thought a set of motorcycle carbs would be gravy. Guess I was wrong

Remember - when starting a cold KZ engine choke on full and do not touch the throttle. One other note, the carb bowls can be removed without removing the carbs. The tool below helps.

Thanks Ed! Wish I woulda known that before. I finally got it to run and it was sounding good so I took it out for a short ride. All was good for a little bit but then it quit on me. I had to put the petcock on prime to get it back running, so I took off then a little later it quit again. I repeated the same process and got it running again. This time I left it on prime and it did fine. Anybody got any ideas???

I just found the problem! Thank you redneck for suggesting the vacuum line. It was hooked up but it seems that when I set the tank on it pinched the line. Thanks for the help and suggestions everybody
