I need a float level answer please was created by Jhenry
1974 Z1A, a great bike by the way. Yes, I admit it. I love an inanimate abject.

I suspect my float levels are off just a bit, especially in #1 carb. The stock 28mm Mikuni's. Too much fuel in that carb.

I know I need to do the clear tube test for exactatude, but that will have to wait. My manual states with the carb upside down I should have a 24mm float height above the carb body. My question is this. Should the 24mm (953 thousandths) be measured from the rim, or down into the carb further where the gasket sits.

I can get this squared away in the AM if I get a answer. Thanks guys.

Why wait on doing the clear tube test when it's faster, much easier, and waaay more accurate than doing the upside down; hit or miss guesswork thing? Ed

Because I need to ride tomorrow, so I need to get it as close as possible in the AM. I will fine tune it afterwards. Constructive criticism I can take, but an answer would be much more helpful at this point.

Gasket Surface for float height measurement, not the rim. Once done, verify the fuel level with the clear tube test.

I did the clear tube without any special tools, just took my bowl to the hardware store, and found a tube that would thread into the drain hole.B)

Measure fro the gasket surface as it sits in the carb roof of the carb , or the gasket surface below the floats if upside down. Plus or minus 24mm by (one mm)

Am addicted to Z1's and kz 900's have an el camino, fly rc helicoptors and am strung out on horsepower.
