rejetting is replacing the current jets with dif sized jets. this would be done if u modified the bike in some way. like adding a header or individual air filters. these type of mods require rejetting to supply more fuel.
get the bike running before u worry about rejetting.
why do people tell u that it needs rejetting?

u dont buy a kit. u buy 1 size larger and try it . if that doesnt feel good enough u buy the next size up.
first u need to read up on carbs a bit. then jump in with both feet.
go to the top of the page and click on Filebase. in there click on not model-specific. look for files on rebuilding and tuning carbs.

on pg 2
there is a Simple_Jet_Guide .

a mikuni-vm-manual
kzrider.com/filebase/doc_download/349-mikuni-vm-manual

this 1 too
KZ_Slide_Carb_Tuning

PG 3

this is a good 1

don't mean to HiJack but..

How do you remove the jets from the jet stems? I seem to be stripping the jet.. You can remove them, right?

Just curious....these people who told you to rejet the carbs...were they the same people who told you to remove the airbox? Again just curious. There is a LOT of info here about Pods vs Airbox, it's a little after the fact but you may want to do a search with that term. Just to know what exactly you are dealing with.

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

If your bike is an 83 KZ550A, you have carbs similar to the KZ550H gpz. You may be able to use the Dynojet kit fro that bike, but it's not cheap. It's not really a task for a beginner.
