i took my carburetors apart today and cleaned the jets out. when putting them back together i noticed that there was a float needle valve missing from one of my floats. should i just buy one and replace it or should i replace them all? also does anyone know how to adjust my floats? send me to a site? ive tried looking in the search but had no luck. thank you!

Check out this thread and the linked to threads in the linked to thread. ;)

I used 3/16 ID tygon tubing to check mine, cut it at an angle so the end is sharp, shove it in the drain hole and turn it a few times to set it.

Are you asking how far down the tube has to be before coming back up against the side of the carb? If so it doesnt matter, it can be tight against the bottom and side of the carb or go down to the ground before coming back up. However I dont recommend using 6 feet of tubing to do this, remember that you have to fill the tubing in addition to the bowl with fuel for the test. The clear tube method is just a neat trick to be able to see the exact fuel level inside the bowl.....works pretty good too!

There is a little tab on the float assembly to adjust the float height and thus the fuel level in the bowl. Maybe someone will post a photo showing the tab. Do you have any kind of manual, pretty sure they all have a pic of the tab to adjust.

Go easy on that tab, it doesnt take much to change the fuel level a lot. Also, I used rubbing alcohol to set the floats in mine. I read it suggested by a member here (Patton maybe?) and that works great! Are you doing this with the carbs off the bike? If on the bike be sure to do this test with the bike level, not on the kick stand.

To much will be drained out the drain tube. To little will not raise the float enough. The floats job is to move the needle in and out. As the float drops so does the needle allowing more fuel to enter the bowl. Once it reaches the correct leave the floats raise the needle back up and cuts off the fuel supply to the bowl.
Hope that helps. I can not stress the importance of having a shop manual.
