Hey ZTop, your problem isn't with the lack of silencer. It was only there to dull down the intake noise. I'd suggest another mechanic? So long as you have the standard air box (Not incl. silencer) it should be running fine. The problem will be elsewhere.
Keep an eye on ePay, they come up reasonably often,but can go for silly money at times

Thanks Sorf and Cory. Your info is actually encouraging since that would mean I don't have to find a silencer. The air box is on it. I'll also check the boots since they could be drying out with age. I'll pass the rejetting info on to my mechanic also since that's what he's going to dig into next.
