I'm swapping mine. I didn't have a problem with flow but why should I? The paper element was just laying there not filtering or blocking anything.

mtkawboy wrote: Might as well switch over, the paper ones just dont work any more. I limped home 3 times on my Gs1100 thinking I was having coil problems. It would run around town when the filter was brand new but when you got it up to 60 or so it would run out of gas. After a week it wouldnt even run around town.I Finally stuck a bronze Custom Chrome filter on and it was fine. It has to be the new gas, I used them for years with no problems

I also used those paper ones for years. Then about 7 years ago I started having problems with them. It seems like the glue dissolves over time, then re-settles on the paper, sealingit off after awhile. That's all I can figure. Like you said, maybe new gas is dissolving the glue where the older gas (without alcohol) did not.

More information about Ethanol in gasoline:

1. Ethanol can break down resins and fillers in fiberglass gas tanks, causing them to leak.

2. Resins leached from fiberglass tanks can go through the fuel system, sticking to valves and other internal engine parts.

3.These deposits have caused bent pushrods and have clogged intake valves.

4.The alcohol attracts water, leading to increased corrosion in metal gas tanks.

5.Water in the fuel affects the octane and leads to knocking and decreased performance.

6.Ethanol acts as an efficient solvent, gradually cleaning out the accumulated gunk in fuel tanks and lines, and clogging carburetors.

7. Certain rubber gaskets and fuel lines are weakened by ethanol.

UPDATE: Apparently I was wrong. I thought my filter degraded over the course of the winter while in storage. It takes LESS THAN A WEEK!!! Maybe a couple of days. My new one already crapped out!!! No more paper filters for me.
