so i am gonna be replacing mine today or tomorrow. I think i have mine all set up just waiting. i plugged all 4 carb vacuum ports left the vacuum line from the tank to under the seat installed. so just main fuel from petcock to fuel filter to carbs. is this right?

I have an 81 1000 csr and they are mikuni carbs. as of now i have all four vacuum ports capped. so vac lines from carb 2 and 4 i just took the tee out and left the line attached to vac switch then 3 carb was already capped and carb 1 went to petcock. so am i correct to have vac line to vac switch just to open air then?

Regardless of carb style, plug/cap every vacuum nipple that's not being used for another component such as a vacuum operated petcock.

Where a manual (i.e., non-vacuum) petcock is fitted, plug/cap every vacuum nipple.

Don't leave any unused vacuum nipple uncapped. Because an open vacuum nipple creates a massive air leak.

Don't confuse the VENT nipples with vacuum nipples.
VENT nipples are needed to provide atmospheric pressure inside the float bowls to maintain the fuel level.
VENT nipples typically have hoses attached that are routed to exit underneath the bike or underneath the seat.

Where the "Clean Air" paraphernalia remains on the bike (which is a component of Kawasaki's "Clean Air Injection System" designed to reduce exhaust emissions toward complying with EPA requirements), it may be removed without harming performance.

Removal may actually improve performance in cases where an air leak had developed in any of the associated hoses, attachments, fittings or connections.

can i get away without removing the clean air system? maybe just plug the 1/4 inch rubber hose that came off the tee for carbs 1 and 4?

Only if it doesn't result in an air leak whereby outside air is ingested into the fuel mixture en route to the combustion chamber.

Am uncertain of the result if eliminating the #4 vacuum to #6 while leaving the other stuff in place.

If the effect is to allow un-vacuum-regulated free flow of air into the #7 hoses, it will probably cause popping in the exhaust (same as if just disconnecting the #7 hoses).

As per the oem arrangement with no uncapped vac nipples open to atmosphere.
