Doh! I have to eat my words, I thought I could feel the choke flaps with my fingers, after removing the carbs I have discovers they are all indeed missing. I have read that the holes where the flaps where could be filled and I could just use the choke manually. I would like to hear from anyone who has done this, and how to go about filling the holes in.

:)

But actually, it was Apbling who has done it most recently.
He sealed them off, but that required messing with the choke too much while warming up. If you can wait for the bike to warm up, (or only ride in warmer weather) it may work, but in the end he ended up making new flaps.
Turned out pretty good:

Gabbing some would be the way to go, but I have no way of doing this myself. Epoxy doesn't sound like the best route. I will call the local bike yards, maybe just get a set of parts carbs then.

I just did the e-bay thing and have a set of carbs (with choke flaps)coming from a salvage yard. I cant wait to put them in... then again I have no idea how to tune the carbs so more reading here and silly questions will be the next step. I just remembered I have to check another thread and get the right size jets because I will be using emgo pod filters. More reading! B)
Happy Easter weekend to all.

eBay has them. Search kz550 choke flaps or choke valves.

eBay sells just the choke flaps / valves for around $35. You can replace them without having to remove the carburetors and it's pretty simple. I did it myself and only took about 30 minutes.
