Carbs flooding out after cleaning them?
16 Mar 2012 22:07
I have a 82 kz550 ltd, at least i think its the ltd. I cleaned the jets and bowls and everything on the carb, but with the tank on prime i cant get it to fire. I have learned that with the tank on prime then no fuel comes out. Any other position the gas just pours out. I am at my wits end with this bike. I got the bike to start and run on its own once but then it flooded out. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flooding carbs mean the needle valves need cleaning/replacing and the fuel levels may need adjusting.

as the fuel level rises in the bowl, the float, floats up. there is a tab attached to the float, that pushes up on the float needle. this needle pushes against a seat, and blocks(stops) the flow of fuel into the bowl. if the needle or seat are dirty or worn the fuel will continue to pass through, and flood the carb. Also make sure there is no holes in the float that may cause it to be waterlogged with fuel. and that the floats are moving freely and not binding at all.then check the loat level with the clear tube meathod.
hope this helps

If you have fuel coming from the carb overflow tubes identify which carb(s) are overflowing. Then check to ensure you did not install the floats upside down or bend the tangs on the floats. Also, ensure the float valves are not sticking. ed
