Fuel Injection for a 1977 KZ1000
16 Mar 2012 20:05
Does anyone know if a throttle body off a 1980 KZ1000 G1 fit on my 1977 KZ1000? I'm tired of messing with my carbs and want to try fuel injection. I found a trottle body on Ebay for $70.

Yes, it'll fit but you do realize that the throttle bodies go with a system where the fuel injectors are mounted directly in the head...rephrased...there are no fuel injectors associated with the throttle bodies from the Z1 Classic bodies. To use those throttle bodies, you'll have to get a Z1 Classic head...and all those other bits associated with the system...and then there is the matter of if you switch heads, the Z1 Classic is a MKII 1015 style motor which is slightly different than your earlier style 1015 motor and is not a direct drop on...
It may benefit you to look at threads on this site that chat about how others have converted normally aspirated bikes (e.g. KZ650) to fuel injection.

Yep, you'll need the fuel pump(and where to mount it) sensors: throttle position sensor(TPS) engine temp sensor and air temp sensor, modify the tank for the one way return valve from the fuel pressure regulator(that too) and the ECU(Electronic Control Unit).
Then the wiring harness(2) one just for the FI system, and the other the FI plugs into.
I'd get a set of injectors from the 1982 GPz 1100 B2 as they are mounted on insulators, unlike the 1981 GPz 1100 that baked the life out of the injectors.

Go for the later throttle bodies that have the injectors in the throttle bodies.
I have used '83 gpz11 tbs on my 650.

Fairly sure that I have seen your bike Dave on UK forums.
If it was you have you put the videos etc that you had on here?
It would be interesting to know more on what you did had to adapt as I have a z650 about thats suitable for this conversion and most of a gpz1100 fuel injection system (not massively expensive to source in the UK)

So it sounds like I need to stay away from the 1980 G1 setup and start looking for a 1982-83 GPZ set-up. Anyone have these parts lying around that they want to sale?

82-84, although 83-84 GPz1100 would be better, 84-85 GPz750 Turbo throttle bodies will also work.
Lots of possibilities

83/84 gpz1100 would be best 750 turbo throttle bodies are to small for the 750 let alone a 1000 i often put gpz1100 throttle bodies on the 750 turbo i guess thats why i have a pile of 750 turbo throttle bodies lying in the garage.

I have a couple of old videos of the bike running the megasquirt set up, I used all the hardware except for the inlet air temp and temp sensors I used small theremisters for those.
TB's, pressure reg, TPS pump and injectors are all '83 gpz1100. Ecu is a megasquirt 1 running ms extra code fuel only. Inlet rubbers are z1000j and I run k&n pod filters.
the videos are
As always theere are a few thing I still want to do to the bike but I am messing around with a few other projects and want to finish at least one of them before changing anything so that I still have a bike to ride
